Electricians use their knowledge of electric currents to build and fix systems for building controls, solar power, energy storage, smart lighting, and industrial processes. Work is done in homes, commercial buildings, factories, and other large structures. Electricians must be licensed, typically following a three- to five-year apprentice program, and they need to understand basic algebra, trigonometry, and geometry to make calculations on the job.
