Pipefitters join pipes to build, maintain, and repair systems for transporting or regulating water and fuel. These systems provide heating, cooling, refrigeration, and/or energy for industrial facilities, hospitals, schools, large office buildings, processing plants, and food stores. An apprenticeship or technical education is necessary to develop an understanding of the various systems, as well as building codes, tools, and instrumentation.
