Job Description

As an Automation Engineering Technician - 2nd shift (3:00pm - 11:15pm), you will repair, maintain, and assist manufacturing & packaging operations to ensure automated packaging line and large-scale manufacturing equipment is maintained. You will troubleshoot, diagnose, repair, and maintain manufacturing, pharmaceutical manufacturing, and packaging equipment/machinery. You will also follow all required safety practices and complete required documentation to ensure compliance to cGMP's. This position requires training on 1st shift (7:00am - 3:15pm) for the first few weeks.

Day to Day Responsibilities

  • Effectively troubleshoot and resolve automated machinery/mechanical equipment issues utilizing a systematic logical approach until the root cause is identified
  • Complete work orders and preventative maintenance tasks using fundamental, mechanical applied knowledge and experience
  • Ensure self and others comply with Current Good Manufacturing Practices, safety standards, corporate policies, and procedures
  • Fabricate / repair failed components as needed
  • Program electronic devices including: VFD's, PLC's, and other various controllers
  • Design / fabricate complex machinery to facilitate operations as needed
  • Identify inefficiencies and improvements and offer effective solutions
  • Maintain adequate critical spare parts inventory for assigned functional areas
  • Assist with the procurement of parts /quotes for budgeted items
  • Coordinate and lead the installations of new equipment, modifications, and enhancements
  • Support the engineering department with various projects and initiatives
  • Work with outside contractors/vendors, as needed
  • Maintain and repair HVAC and supporting utility equipment

Minimum Years of Experience

Vocational degree in automated machinery systems or equivalent from a two-year college plus 1 year of work experience in a manufacturing/industrial environment OR high school diploma (or equivalent) plus 3 years of work experience in a manufacturing/industrial environment required. Work experience in pharmaceutical, biotech, food manufacturing, or electronics is preferred. Posses understanding/skills working with: electronics, PLC programming, electrical controls, pneumatics, fluid power encoders /resolvers, stepper motors, servo drives, VFD's, control loops, thermocouples, and safety systems. Experience working in a GMP environment is preferred. Understanding of computer operating systems and file management. SAP knowledge desired. Strives to ensure a safe work place by leading others to demonstrate compliance with the required PPE use; including footwear, hearing protection, eye protection, respirator protection, and electrical PPE and keeps the workplace clean and safe. Travel: Occasional driving. Air travel may be required 1 or 2 times per year. Boiler's license required (or willingness to obtain within first 6 months of employment). Effective and efficient decision making and prioritization skills. Possess the ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand on your feet for 8-10 hours.
