Job Description

The Concrete Finisher’s duties include but are not limited to grading, setup, pouring, and finishing concrete surfaces including but not limited to concrete floors, sidewalks, curbs, and stairs. They are responsible for keeping a clean jobsite and completing all tasks in a safe and productive manner.

Day to Day Responsibilities

Site Preparation

  • Removes old concrete using skid steers and hand tools.
  • Grades to proper elevations using skid steers, shovels, and rakes checking heights using lasers and string lines.
  • Properly constructs wooden forms.
  • Positions forms that hold concrete to the correct depth and ensure they are properly aligned.
  • Installs expansion joints, rebar, and wire mesh as called for in job specifications.
  • Sets poly and tape as required in job specifications.
  • Removes unneeded materials from the working area to a designated location, keeping a clean & safe job site.
  • Notes site conditions, ground temperature, air temperature, and humidity levels and makes adjustments to mix designs to achieve proper set times.

Spreads Concrete

  • Moves large quantities of concrete into position using pumps, conveyors, power buggies and wheel barrows.
  • Communicates with conveyor, pump, and ready-mix drivers via signals to keep the correct flow of concrete and position of chutes and hoses.
  • Spreads and levels concrete using rakes, shovels, hand or power trowels, hand or power screeds, and floats.
  • Operates a power vibrator to compact concrete.
  • Molds expansion joints and edges.

Finishes Concrete

  • Installs anchor bolts, steel plates, door sills and other fixtures as called for in job specifications into poured concrete before it hardens.
  • Finishes surfaces to produce the final product as called for in job specifications using brooms, hand tools, power trowels, and riding trowels.
  • Applies hardening and sealing compounds to cure surfaces as required in job specifications.
  • Saw cuts joints as required in job specifications.

Equipment Use and Maintenance

  • Operates equipment in a safe and respectful manner. Maintains an awareness of the site conditions and adjusts the operation of equipment as needed in order tooperate safely.
  • Checks fluid levels and greases equipment daily.
  • Immediately notifies the foreman of any equipment needing maintenance.
  • Keeps all KJC equipment secure to minimize loss due to theft.
  • Returns equipment to its proper location after use.

Comply with all KJC Safety Policies at all times

  • Acknowledge the importance of safety and PPE on the job site.
  • Report any unsafe conditions or concerns to the foreman, human resources, or the President.

Minimum Years of Experience

A valid driver’s license. Reports to work on time at the location specified by foreman. General knowledge of blue print reading. Provides, maintains, and replaces as needed the tools required for the position as listed on the concrete laborer tools list. The ability to lift 75-100lbs. Physical ability to stand and perform repetitive work that includes bending, pushing, pulling, twisting, kneeling, sitting and squatting for 8 or more hours a day. Effective communication skills including; speaking, listening, and following oral & written instructions. The ability to handle multiple tasks under pressure in a calm manner. The willingness to work overtime as needed.
