Opportunity Pathways is a new scholarship administered by Wallin Education Partners to support lower-income students who seek employment in manufacturing. Wallin Scholars benefit from tuition payments as well as a dedicated advisor from Wallin so that they may complete an Associate's degree at participating technical schools and become a full-time Design Ready Controls employee operating a CNC machine. While completing a degree, students will work part-time for Design Ready Controls during their two school years and full-time during a summer internship, and also receive a company mentor.

Students may attend one of the technical schools below and pursue an Associates degree in a program related to CNC machine technology in order to qualify for the Design Ready Controls Manufacturing Intern position:

Job Description

As a Wallin Scholar, receive a technical degree in order to become a full-time employee at Design Ready Controls operating the CNC Perforex machine to modify enclosures and back panels for production.

Day to Day Responsibilities

  • Attend technical school beginning in the fall of 2020 to pursue a two-year Associates degree in a program related to the CNC operator position.
  • Work part-time at Design Ready Controls during your school years to earn money as well as benefit from on-the-job training and an ongoing orientation to the company.
  • Work full-time at the company during the summer between your two school years at the company.
  • Benefit from regular meetings with a dedicated Wallin advisor to help with your degree-completion process as well as meetings with your Design Ready Controls mentor to assist with your orientation to the company and performance on the job.
  • Receive a full-time offer to work at Design Ready Controls following successful completion of your degree program.
  • As a CNC machinist, you will:
    • Operate the CNC Perforex to modify enclosures and back panels for production
    • Deburr panels after they have been drilled by the machine
    • Load and unload enclosures and back panels safely
    • Maintain a safe, organized and efficient work area. Ensure that machine guards are in place and operate machine in a safe manner at all times
    • Assist in 5S and Lean activities as required
    • Identify and assist in process improvement measures
    • Perform miscellaneous duties as assigned, including assisting in other areas of manufacturing as needed

Minimum Years of Experience

High school education or equivalent (or in-progress). Pursuing or applying to 2-year technical degree. Proficient using precision measurement tools (tape measure, ruler, etc.). High motivation level and ability to multi-task and work well with others. Strong attention to detail, organization and time management skills. Demonstrates good math and communication skills computer skills. Able to read, write, speak, and understand English without the aid of an interpreter. Physical Requirements: Lifting up to 50-85 lbs occasionally (with assistance/lift tables).
