Walser Automotive Wallin Scholars are lower-income students who benefit from tuition assistance as well as a Wallin advisor so they may complete an Associate's degree and become a full-time Walser employee. While completing their degree, students may work part-time for Walser during their two school years and full-time during a summer internship, and they also receive a company mentor.

Students may attend one of the technical schools below and pursue an Associates degree in an automotive technician program in order to qualify for the Walser Automotive position:

  • Anoka Technical College
  • Century College
  • Dakota County Technical College
  • Dunwoody College of Technology
  • Hennepin Technical College
  • Saint Paul College

This position provides the employee with the opportunity to work at Walser's newly-built 80,000 square foot Reconditioning Center in Eagan, MN.

Job Description

As a Trades Hub Wallin Scholar, receive a technical degree in order to become a full-time Diagnostic Technician at Walser Automotive.

Day to Day Responsibilities

  • Attend technical school beginning in the fall of 2022 to pursue a two-year Associates degree in an automotive technician program.
  • Work part-time at Walser Automotive during your school years to earn money as well as benefit from on-the-job training and an ongoing orientation to the company.
  • Work full-time at the company during the summer between your two school years at the company.
  • Benefit from regular meetings with a dedicated Wallin advisor to help with your degree-completion process as well as meetings with your Walser mentor to assist with your orientation to the company and performance on the job.
  • Receive a full-time offer to work at Walser Automotive following successful completion of your degree program.

As a full-time Diagnostic Technician, you will:

  • Perform oil changes
  • Replace bulbs and air filters
  • Check fluid levels, brakes, tires and other minor repairs on all makes and models of used vehicles
  • Use necessary diagnostic equipment (scan tools, TP tools, Alldata, A/C equipment, DVOM, etc.) to diagnose various no start, poor run, squeaks, rattles, front suspension, check engine lights or poor run conditions
  • Prepare estimates
  • Make virtually all repairs needed to recondition cars start to finish
  • Embrace and exhibit CORE values
  • All other duties, tasks and/or projects as assigned

Minimum Years of Experience

High school education or equivalent (or in-progress). Entry level. Pursuing or applying to 2-year technical degree. High motivation level and ability to multi-task and work well with others. Strong attention to detail, organization and time management skills.
