Job Description

Set up and operate die casting machines that cast parts from nonferrous metals, such as aluminum.

Day to Day Responsibilities

  • Lift specified die sections into machine, using a chain or hoist.
  • Bolt die section in position and adjust stroke of ram, using hand tools.
  • Connect water hose to cooling system of die.
  • Preheat die sections with torch or electric heater.
  • Turn valves and set dial to regulate flow of water circulating through die, timing cycle and operating speed of machine, based on size and structure of part being cast and type and temperature of metal being used.
  • Set up robotic operations. Start machine to produce sample casting, and examine casting to verify setup.
  • Blow metal fragments from die surfaces, using air hose, and sprays lubricant over die cavity and plunger.
  • Push button to close and lock dies and activate plunger that forces molten metal into die cavities.
  • Removes casting after dies open automatically, using tongs or pliers.
  • Inspects casting for defects, such as cracks or blisters.
  • Perform process / equipment adjustments as necessary.
  • May measure casting, using fixed gauges.
  • May perform maintenance, cleaning and adjust malfunctioning machines.
  • May clean furnaces and equipment.
  • May operate gas or electric powered forklift truck to move, stack, or unload metal in and about facility.
  • Counts, weighs, and or records number of units of metal moved or handled.

Minimum Years of Experience

Entry level. High School Diploma or equivalent GED. 1-6 months of experience preferred.

Salary or Hourly Rate

Competitive.
