Job Description

As a fabricator, you will be responsible to set up and operate conventional, numerical control (NC) fabrication machines and welding centers to fabricate metallic and nonmetallic parts.

Day to Day Responsibilities

  • Study blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work pieces, sequence of operations, and setup requirements
  • Assist other employees in verification of machine set ups and process outputs to specifications
  • Measure, mark, and scribe dimensions and reference points on material or work pieces as guides for subsequent operations
  • Select, align, and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines such as shears, lasers, brake press, drill press, grinders, rollers, and shapers
  • Calculate and set controls to regulate process control factors such as bend allowance, coining, spring back, cut compensation, power and/or enter commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media
  • Start and observe machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance processes and adjust machine controls or control media as required
  • Verify conformance of finished work pieces to specifications
  • Set up and operate machines on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data
  • Verify dimensions and alignment of assembly
  • Install fabricated replacement parts in mechanisms, machines, and equipment, and test operation of unit to ensure functionality and performance
  • Maintain the machines, systems, and work areas with which you perform your duties
  • Perform 5S duties on daily basis for organization, safety, and cleanliness
  • Confer with engineers, production personnel, programmers, or others to resolve fabrication, operational, or assembly problems
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of the company as a whole and fellow employees
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds

Minimum Years of Experience

Associate’s degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or 3-5 years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Possess knowledge of using CAD software to design and program Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machines to machine metallic and nonmetallic parts. Ability to effectively use measurement devices. Ability to read and understand blueprints. Demonstrate teamwork, attention to detail, problem solving, planning, and organization skills.
