Job Description

As a Fire Alarm & Detection Technician / Inspector, you will be primarily responsible for the installation, repair, troubleshooting, and programming of fire alarms and other low voltage systems in commercial, industrial, health care, and other facilities. Day to Day Responsibilities

  • Effectively plan the day-to-day activities of the assembly, installation, and repair of fire alarm and other low voltage systems
  • Instal and service alarm panels, audible/visual alarms, pull stations, and detectors for fire alarm systems
  • Use a digital multi-meter as a tool for trouble shooting ground faults, shorts, and open circuits on fire alarm and other low voltage systems
  • Instal and service communicators for monitoring systems
  • Fabricate, assemble, instal, and maintain conduit, junction boxes, terminals, and equipment for fire alarm and other low voltage systems
  • Cut, ream, and bend conduits to specifications, using tools such as saws, levels, reamers, and benders
  • Strip, pull, and terminate wire to fire alarm devices using crimps, solder, shrink tubing, tape, wire nuts, and terminal blocks
  • Inspect examining, and test installed systems, using fire alarm testing equipment, load testing, visual, and audible observation, or other methods
  • Program new fire alarm and other low voltage panels
  • Lay out full scale drawings of fire alarm systems, supports, and related equipment, following blueprints
  • Read and understand construction documents including plans, specifications, contracts, purchase orders, and agreements
  • Provide guidance and direction to crews in meeting the budgets and schedule dates of each project
  • Ensure job quality and customer satisfaction is maintained in every stage of the project
  • Inform leadership of all issues affecting production, materials, schedule, costs, and relationships
  • Serve as a role model, trainer, and coach for crew members
  • Focus on safety at all task inceptions, including Daily Huddles and Toolbox Talks
  • Maintain solid working knowledge of applicable NFPA and Life Safety codes
  • Honor all schedules and internal and external customer commitments
  • Assess need for equipment and maintain responsibility for all pieces while in your possession
  • Perform all maintenance and upkeep of company provided vehicles, returning proper documentation as required
  • Complete all required and recommended training through participation in the many leadership and development opportunities that will be provided to you
  • Perform other duties as assigned and as the business needs adjust

Minimum Years of Experience

Salary or Hourly Rate

High school diploma or equivalent. Ability to work independently and with team Experience with Fire Alarm Service, Low Voltage Electronics, and Special Hazards systems is a plus. Gamewell FCI/Fire Lite/Silent Knight is a plus. Knowledge of Fire Alarm Design or layout. NICET Certification is a plus but must have the ability to become NICET Certified. Physically capable of performing the essential functions of being a Fire Alarm Technician including handling material potentially more than 80lbs; working with tools off scaffolds, ladders, and aerial lifts at heights potentially more than 100 ft; working in confined spaces; and working in adverse weather conditions. Strong values and a dedication to always working with honesty and integrity. Well-developed active listening, critical thinking, and deductive reasoning skills. Other physical demands include: the employee is regularly required to talk and hear for up to 8 hours in any shift; the employee is frequently required to sit; stand; walk for up to 8 hours in any shift; the employee will use hands to finger, handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms and have constant use of overall vision (or with the use of adaptive equipment/technology) for up to 8 hours in any shift; the employee must occasionally lift or move office products and supplies, up to 100 pounds; the employee must occasionally crawl, squat, climb, kneel, or bend throughout shift; working with tools off scaffolds, ladders, and aerial lifts at heights potentially more than 100 ft; working in confined spaces and in trenches of eight feet or greater depth; working in adverse weather conditions.
