Job Description

Masonry and Concrete Laborers are responsible for keeping Brick/Block Layers supplied with materials at all times. Laborers assist concrete crews by digging trenches, placing, spreading, and finishing concrete. It is essential to follow directions from the Foreman and complete all tasks in a safe and productive manner.

Day to Day Responsibilities

Provide assistance to Brick/Block Layers

  • Mix mortar
  • Cut block & brick to size as requested
  • Supply mortar, brick, block, and misc. materials making sure there is an adequate supply.
  • Ensure mortar is at the consistency required by Brick/Block Layers and makes necessary adjustments.
  • Assist in core filling block as directed by Foreman and Brick/Block Layers.
  • Remove excess mortar from walls and floors.
  • Assist in demolition as directed.
  • Work efficiently at elevated heights

Communicate with operators dropping and picking up loads via hand signals.

  • Keep Brick/Block Layers supplied in a safe and efficient manner on scaffolding.
  • Set and tie rebar as directed by Forman, Finishers, and Masons.
  • Follow all OSHA elevated height regulations.

Provide assistance to Cement Masons

  • Unload, carry, and stack building materials as directed.
  • Dig trenches for footings.
  • Assist in grading.
  • Place and compacts fill.
  • Place, spread, and compact concrete.
  • Set up and remove forms.
  • Assist in demolition as directed.

Prepare the job site

  • Assist in setup, tear down, and moving of scaffolding.
  • Inform foreman on stock levels and materials needed for the next day.
  • Keep all KJC equipment secure to minimize loss due to theft.
  • Assist in maintaining a clean and safe jobsite.

Comply with all KJC Safety Policies at all times

  • Acknowledge the importance of safety and PPE on the job site.
  • Report any unsafe conditions or concerns to the foreman, human resources, or the President.

Minimum Years of Experience

A valid driver’s license. Entry level. Ability to read a tape measure. Reports to work on time at the location specified by foreman. The ability to lift 75-100lbs. Ability to work at elevated heights, in small narrow areas, and confined spaces for long periods of time. Physical ability to stand and perform repetitive work that includes bending, pulling, pushing, lifting, twisting and squatting for 8 or more hours a day. Effective communication skills including; speaking, listening, and following oral & written instructions.
