  • Must be currently enrolled in a school program.
  • Ability to understand the basic functions of the robot.
  • Ability to organize and run work in a timely and effective manner.
  • Strong working knowledge of the equipment, materials, methods and practices used in production welding operation.
  • Strong working knowledge of related safety requirements to include proper use of safety equipment and proper safety precautions such as lights, guards, switches, etc.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

  • Run any robot while producing quality parts at an efficient rate.
  • Identify problems with the robot and get the right individual involved.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area by following the clean-up schedule.
  • Use the computer software to clock in and out of work and in/out of jobs along with checking job count.

About the Company

Daikin Applied manufactures technologically-advanced commercial HVAC systems that customers from around the world can trust to advance their needs for performance, reliability and energy efficiency.

Opportunity Pathways is a new scholarship administered by Wallin Education Partners to support lower-income students who seek employment in manufacturing. Wallin Scholars benefit from tuition payments as well as a dedicated advisor from Wallin so that they may complete an Associate's degree at participating technical schools and become a full-time Daikin Applied employee working as an HVAC Engineering Technician. While completing a degree, students will work part-time for Daikin Applied during their two school years and full-time during a summer internship, and also receive a company mentor.

Students may attend Hennepin Technical College and pursue an Associate’s degree in Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration in order to qualify for the Daikin Applied HVAC Engineering Technician position.

Education

  • Minimum GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale during technical school to qualify for full-time position.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Demonstrated proficiency in the MS Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and Word).
  • Ability to work a minimum of 35 hours per week for the duration of the summer and 20 hours during the school year.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

  • Attend technical school beginning in the fall of 2020 to pursue a two-year Associate’s degree in a program related to the HVAC Engineering Tech position.
  • Work part-time at Daikin Applied during your school years to earn money as well as benefit from on-the-job training and an ongoing orientation to the company.
  • Work full-time at the company during the summer between your two school years at the company.
  • Benefit from regular meetings with a dedicated Wallin advisor to help with your degree-completion process as well as meetings with your Daikin Applied mentor to assist with your orientation to the company and performance on the job.
  • Receive an offer to work at Daikin Applied full-time following successful completion of your degree program.
  • As an HVAC Engineering Technician, you will be assigned projects in the Tech Center to support daily activities for new product development. Projects will cover a broad spectrum of technical areas. Successful candidates will have an opportunity to:
    • Develop an understanding of industry standards covering methods of testing and compliance.
    • Gain experience with lab-grade instrumentation and measurement application techniques.
    • Build, operate, and test advanced next-generation equipment prototypes.
    • Utilize basic electrical wiring skills to set up, modify, and troubleshoot test units.
    • Apply fundamental HVAC skills (brazing, reading schematics, troubleshooting, refrigerant handling, etc).
